Casting Zarafa

Here are some pics and some explanations of the casting process so far.

Some thoughts,

I seek compelling gestures to fit abstract ideas.  The design of the animal ambiguously demonstrates emotion through form and gesture, provoking an intriguing interaction between it and the viewer.

Animals simply exist.  They don’t require meaning.  They are fully immerged in the present moment.  Humans nominalize and intellectualize in a search for meaning where the true essence and beauty lie on an entirely separate plane.

I had to cut the sculpture into 7 pieces to make for a more efficient mold.  So I removed the head, tail and 4 legs, to cast them separately.  It hurt me to do it, but it had to be done.

Out of the mold.

At this point he is put back together, but he still needs to be cleaned up and painted

It’s been fun and exhausting at the same time.

The skill of a master, the youth that insures you to have a prolific carrier which translates into “future is so bright you have to wear shades”!

  8. Wow,

Very nice work, congratulations. I like the sculpture and the way you have made the mold and the cast. I know how hard is to make big things like that and used to hate the part of fibreglassing and sanding, but when you see the end result everything is worth it.
    Thanks for showing it

Thanks for the comment Rafael! It’s great to hear from other sculptors who have done the process. How do you like digital process?
